![]() Photographs
live on for longer than their subject matter in most situations, however
there are times when this might not be the case. A family may travel the
world taking their precious memories with them or the pictures may be
handed down the generations. Each time the photo is handled the effects
of age are exaggerated further.

Of course photographs have been restored well before the computer came onto the scene, but the methods were labour intensive, costly and because chemicals were used on the original print there was no guarantee what the finished restoration would look like. This is one of the great benefits of utilising Digital Imaging to restore photographs. Here at CD Imaging you are always offered the opportunity to view your finished item before we go to print. This allows you the customer to suggest any final alterations/additions so that you can be entirely satisfied with your final picture. |

Scratches, tears, missing corners can all be rectified by the digital process.

| Sunlight and humidity both contribute to the ageing process of a photograph. The difficulty here is that not all the image has been affected to the same degree. Fine tuning is required to match both levels of colour tone. | |||||

A lot of the skills used to restore photographs illustrated on this site have been learnt from one of the masters in this field, Katrin Eismann. I thoroughly recommend her books, the original of which has now been updated to incorporate the latest version of Photoshop®. As a contributor to this second edition I know from personal experience that the worked examples and guidance offered by Katrin are the most informative means of learning this art. Click on the books to discover more of this talented artist. |
